Some people like to edit their videos, and MKV is not edit friendly. That may be the reason he hates them. The best format for editing is still AVI.

VLC free player loves MKV files and all the others.
I never worry about format with it. If you're not using it you're handicapping yourself. Google and download the klite codecs too. |
